Knowledge Creates Awareness. Awareness Creates Possibility.
Human trafficking can affect individuals of different ages, backgrounds, and circumstances. Understanding how exploitation happens, recognizing potential warning signs, and knowing where to find help are important steps toward prevention and recovery.
Understanding Human Trafficking
Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain labor or commercial sex acts. Exploitation often happens behind closed doors, hidden within everyday interactions. Recognizing the tools of exploitation—such as isolation, debt bondage, and psychological manipulation—is crucial for awareness.
Potential Warning Signs
Living with an employer in poor conditions
Multiple people in a cramped space or workplace
Inability to speak to an individual alone
Employer holding identity or travel documents
Signs of physical abuse or fearful behavior
Note: While no single sign proves trafficking is occurring, a combination of these and other indicators should prompt further professional inquiry.

Potential Warning Signs
- Living with employer or poor living conditions
- Inability to speak to individuals alone or being closely monitored
- Signs of physical abuse or untreated illness
- Submissive, fearful, or nervous behavior
- Lack of personal identification or travel documents
- Inconsistencies in their story or high level of secrecy
Note: These signs individually may not indicate trafficking, but appearing in combination, they are often a cause for concern. If you suspect someone is in danger, do not intervene yourself—call a hotline or local authorities.
